The gift of the Holy Spirit was given at Pentecost to the entire church. Peter says that it is for all who believe, even those who are far off. Acts 10 shows that the Gentiles who were far from God's covenant are also given the Holy Spirit. It is for everyone.
Prayer is a divinely determined means by which we unite ourselves with God. Through prayer, we know God, we hear his voice, we are empowered to do his will, and we learn to walk in the Spirit.
The third core value of our mission is reaching into the world. We do this through ministries of love, service, and bridge-building. The primary focus is evangelism. Whatever we do in word and deed, we seek to win people to Jesus. Phillip the Deacon in Acts 8 is our example.
Renewed through worship means God animates our worship and works through it to unite us with him. God dwells in the praises of his people. Furthermore, worship creates a spiritual atmosphere in which the work of God prospers. Worship is a way of life and a corporate activity.
Jesus is the one and living Word, and the Bible is the inspired written Word. It is our primary source of authority and our guide for right faith and right action. We believe that it reveals God’s will to us. Reading the Bible is a spiritual discipline because God reveals himself to us through his Word.
In Matthew 28, Jesus tells the church to make disciples. In John 15, Jesus says that a Disciple is a person who abides in him and bears fruit through the inner working of the Holy Spirit. When you assess your life, what is the evidence that you are a disciple?
The NT offers seven signs that prove that Jesus was resurrected and that he is who he said he was. The first six related to physical evidence. The 7th seal is the prophetic word. Jesus perfectly fulfilled everything that was written about him in the OT. This is a very strong proof.
Based on their worldview, when Jesus appeared to the frightened disciples who were locked in the upper room after his resurrection, they thought he was a ghost. Jesus told them he wasn't then he proved it to them. The 6 proofs teach us about our future resurrection bodies.
The evidence for the resurrection of Jesus is so compelling that an unbiased jury would rule it happened. Personal testimonies, eyewitness statements, physical evidence left in the tomb, and the convictions of those who testified to it are overwhelming. The historical evidence for the crucifixion and resurrection is documented better than almost any other event in human antiquity.
The Jewish Messianic arrival script accurately anticipated the first and second acts. They did not anticipate 3-5 because they expected Jesus to declare himself the Messiah, usher in the Day of the Lord, separate the good from the bad Jews, make Israel the greatest nation, and destroy Rome. This was the secret. Before Jesus could save the nation, he had to save the people from sin. I have listed a prophetic chronology of the acts.
After asking God to ritually cleanse him after committing his sin, David moves to the real problem. His heart needs to be purified. He cries, "Create in me a clean heart, O God." When we repent, God removes the stain of sin and allows us to have access to him. To remain in the relationship, we need to allow the Holy Spirit to purify us.
David cried out for God to clean him and make him as white as snow. He realized that the stain in his heart could only be removed by God. When we realize that sin has left a crimson stain that cannot be washed out by our own hands, we will surrender to God's grace.
Coviction is a gift from God. It leads us to repentance and a renewed relationship with our Creator. The Holy Spirit is the source of conviction. Don't fight against him.
The woman caught in the act of adultery was brought to Jesus by people who were morally unqualified to condemn her because they were equally guilty before God. When everyone left, she stood before the only one who was qualified to judge her. All judgment has been given to the Son. Like that woman, each of us will stand before Jesus someday.
When Paul tells husbands to love their wives like Christ loved the church, he's not talking about marriage hierarchy. Rather, he is using the idea of marriage as it existed in his time to tell people to love each other as Christ loved us -- sacrificially!
Jesus rejected the "where is the right place to worship" and "what is the right way to worship" argument that the Samaritan woman poffered. Instead, he said that God does not care about that stuff. He wants us to come to him in truth (Jesus is the truth and the only way to the Father) and in spirit (not via ritual or formalism). Revelation 5 shows us how to worship in spirit and in truth.
Jesus is light and he gives light to those who come to him.
The righteousness of God is imputed to us when we put our trust in Jesus.
